A mattress won't fit in a car, curbside pickup won't take it, and the transfer station charges a mattress surcharge on top of the gate fee. A sectional is worse — it usually has to come apart to get back out of the room it went into. So both of them end up in the garage, then the side yard, then out by the fence.
This is the smallest job we do and one of the ones we do most. Single-item pickups are completely normal for us: one mattress, one couch, one dresser. There's a $150 minimum service charge any time we come out, and past that the price is flat and quoted before we touch anything.
We remove from wherever it sits, including second-floor bedrooms and apartments with no elevator, and we bag mattresses before they come through the house when bed bugs or staining are a concern. Furniture in genuinely good condition gets offered to donation partners first — plenty of couches we pick up end up in someone's living room instead of a landfill. Mattresses go to recycling facilities that break them down for steel, foam, and fiber wherever those facilities will take them.
